Airbus is setting the standards for smart dismantling and recycling of aircraft that have reached the end of their service life. The Airbus-initiated PAMELA (Process for Advanced Management of End-of-Life Aircraft) project -- which tests environmentally-friendly recycling procedures with retired airliners -- has determined that some 80 per cent of all materials from these aircraft can be reused or repurposed. Comments from Olivier Malavallon, director of the PAMELA project, are featured.
