UK Rioters are White & Black

Britain ablaze. For more than four days, the UK has been rocked by a state of unrest as young gangs throughout the country damaged and looted buildings and shops.

They also vented their anger towards the police and the establishment, who they felt have marginalised them. In Croydon, south London on Monday night, buildings were set on fire, streets were littered with glass and supermarkets were raided and burgled.

This Tesco shop behind me was broken into and looted in the early hours of Tuesday morning. It seems like food stores and electronic shops have been the main target for looters.

Shops and businesses on Croydon High Street were mainly closed on Tuesday. There were rumours of more unrest in the area, and shop owners were on high alert.

The former Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone toured the area and spoke to the residents of Croydon. He also told Press TV that the violence was not an issue of race.

The Government have taken heed and deployed more police officers with heavily armoured vehicles in and around the capital. Croydon was under tight control and streets were cordoned off.

But it seems that the police were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The cities of Manchester and Birmingham erupted in a bigger wave of protest and violence.

It appears that movements of the youth gangs have become unpredictable, with the police not knowing where to be stationed. And with no end in sight, the UK will expect to see more of the same in the next few days.
