I wrote a new song, it has a really cool melody, I think. It`s got a haunting minor opening section which builds the tension, and a major-7 based bridge section where the tension is released.

(As an aside, my former high school music teacher Jill Sparrow (Seaquam Secondary in North Delta, BC, Canada) once said that music can be defined as the creation and release of tension).

Anyways, this time I take the microphone and introduce my song, then I play it, and then after the performance I give a short "lesson" if you will, explaining the main chords of the song and my approach to composing it. I am hoping this will be the start of a bunch of videos where I play some music and then have a short chat to explain the main ideas or musical concepts that I am trying to convey.

Regarding the inspiration for this song, I believe that I am inspired by music that I hear around me and the people that I meet. I must say, that some of the inspiration for this song comes from hearing my friend meshe (Michelle Dumond) perform a concert in her living room last Wednesday (her website is http://www.michelledumond.com).

Another inspiration (which I cheekily wrote into the title) is the Vancouver based band Ninjaspy, of which I had the pleasure of meeting their bassist Tim (nintimjaspy) at meshe`s concert.
Ninjaspy plays a complex and energetic style of music that combines genres such as post hardcore, ska, grunge, reggae, and funk. Check out their Youtube at http://www.youtube.com/user/ninjaspytv and their myspace at http://www.myspace.com/thetriadinblood

The closing music to this video is a performance of the Geoff Peters Band playing the song Voyage by Kenny Barron

Very cool, Geoff. I love the "haunting minor" at the opening. I felt throughout as if I were suspended in the air, waiting... waiting, carried along, and finally let down gently to the ground again. It was a neat feeling. Nice work.

    Thanks Krista!!! :)
