I took the train up to Montreal and Quebec City last weekend to explore Montreal and attend the Quebec Winter Carnaval.

Here's what I saw:
--ice floes on the Hudson River, at Spuyten Duyvil Bridge and other places upstream;
--a two-horse open sleigh;
--drummers welcoming festivalgoers to an ice bar;
--circus-type performers on stilts;
--a dodgeball-type game;
--human foosball, where people were strapped to sliding poles and attempted to play soccer;
--strange gibberish-spouting jugglers;
--snow rafting;
--ziplining;
--snow sculpting;
--ice slides;
--maple-syrup taffy lollipops made by pouring hot syrup into clean snow, letting it cool slightly, then rolling it up onto a stick; and
--a brass band with flag line playing in front of the "Ice Palace."

The Quebec Winter Carnaval runs through February 13, 2011: http://www.carnaval.qc.ca/en for more info.

  • Awesome video! Out of Curiosity were did you begin your trip? We live in Champlain NY and always wondering how much the train costs to go to Montreal or Quebec? That brings back memories have'nt been to that since a little boy great video and arent Canadians Jolly people?

    S Beau

  • @adkbeau I rode Amtrak from NYC to Montreal, and got a special deal for $89 round-trip via Amtrak's website. Train from Montreal to Quebec was $41 and bus back to Montreal was $45. (Those are Canadian dollars, of course, but the USD and CAD are pretty much of equal value now.)

    Glad you enjoyed!
