In this underrated satire of the melodrama genre Alan Mowbray plays a villainous lawyer who wants to kick a widow and her daughter out of their home. Introduced by Billy Gilbert and featuring a fun performance by Buster Keaton in one of his better early talkies. Margaret Hamilton (The Wizard of Oz) plays the widow.
buster is so wonderful in this film. i love the subtle expressions he makes. especially the awkwardness when he is saying his name to the camera, makes me laugh everytime.

I really like this film and it shows what Keaton could do if he was given the respect as a good actor. It helps that Eddie Cline - who gets second billing as Director in most of Keaton's silent greats was the Director. He knew and respected the breadth of Keaton's wit and comic gift.
Seeing Keaton in that costume makes me wonder as again - wouldn't he have made a great Wizard in "The Wizard of OZ"???

His first talkie was in 1930. This is from 1940, so not very early!
