Hm, another quite flat performance by Evgeny "La boîte à joujoux" Kissin. Technically fine, and the sounds are even and beautiful and controlled and subtle.
But that is exactly the problem; Gretchen is in mental agony, she is tense with a kind of "Angst", anxiety. Her "evenness of soul" is truly gone and her mind is spinning out of control. Yet Kissin does not even begin to project this changed and intense mental state with his all too rustic playing.
In short: good sounds, not so good music.

The depth of what Kissin expresses in this playing goes beyond anything all imaginable. This is a once-in-a-lifetime performance, and a true example of music that transcends the body...

OK! :-)
What absoluately fabulously gorgeous piano playing. This was the very first introduction I had to Kissin in a live concert, and one could tell after 10 notes that he was a talent of the century. Listen to the voicing of the melody and the absolute eveness and stability of the triplets. No banging where Liszt can get obscene in the hands of most.
Absolutely magnificent.
