The Geico Commercial that ran during the History Channel's showing of 'Gettysburg' on 5/30/11.
This commercial was by far the best part of this piece of garbage production that was trying to be pawned of as "History!"
This was done on my phone, so parden the quality.

  • Being a reenactor, I saw the humour in this from a reenactor's point of view. I have seen ALL those things at a reenactment! That does not mean that the people that do them care less about history. I have had my farby stuff hid under a blanket at some events, But I have also been moved to tears when I am on sacred ground. reenactors are a unique group, but honouring the men that served is never taken lightly. If you are not a reenactor your will not understand. But I invite you to join us!

  • As a reenactor, I LOVE THIS COMMERCIAL! Laughed my posterior off. Good one, GEICO, and the caveman looks great in the uniform..

  • Geico commercials and reenacting...what could be better?

  • Until I became ill from agent orange in Vietnam, I was a re-enactor with the !9th Indiana Volunteers. I certainly under stand the pizza. It does not take too many events to grow tired of chipping your teeth on hard tack, or eating salt pork, actually we veteran re-enactors usually went out to eat or ate at one of the sutter places. I didn't worry about the errors. I love the commercial. I wish I could have been in it. Pvt. Fred Miles

  • Funny and in some cases too true. For me the closer I've gotten to the soldiers- what they did and what they used & wore- has helped me to enjoy reenacting even more, though it is also more challenging.

  • As a reenactor I had to pick myself up off the floor, this was too funny, but so true in some aspects..

though I take humor in the fact that General Caveman is wearing Lt Gen. rank straps, which none of the generals at Gettysburg had that rank, as a matter of fact, only Winfeild Scott, and U.S. Grant made the rank of Lt. General during the civil war.. ahh the irony...

  • I agree with you tabowers215! Being a reenactor, I have not done 'all' those things...but I do see the humor in this commercial!! I too do not take 'lightly' the honoring of those that fought, and, being on sacred ground is 'very moving'. Reenacting is fun, and it is an honor to present 'history' to those that watch.

  • the one corporal in my unit (93rd PVI) coined the phrase "authenticity, even a caveman can do it"

  • It's Culp's Hill, not Clump's Hill.

  • "I won't be paying at all, Thank you very little" lmao Great concept for a commercial..

  • @jasonbariamis1 That is too cool Jason...I really love the concept of the commercial and anything the caveman does is gold....I'm glad you had a good time doing the spot...I still like the Snuggie part the best...

  • I am the guy wearing the CAMO SNUGGIE in this commercial. I had a great time on the shoot and a new found respect for reenactors. It was quite a brutal shoot from 5pm to 5am but well worth it. I think the commercial looks great!
