What did the Nazis and 20th century American
captains of industry have in common?

They employed the same public relations experts.

Note that I didn't say they employed the same
public relations *techniques*...they employed
and learned from the same exact people.

Here's the story of Edward Bernays who participated
in bloody coups in Central America for the United Fruit,
marketed all kinds of disastrous habits like smoking
and was Joseph Goebbels' favorite public relations
theorist.
In 2002, Adam Curtis and the BBC released a four-part series called "The Century of the Self."

The series tracks how American elites have aggressively used the modern behavioral sciences to persuade, coerce and manipulate the American public into accepting the corporate-government world's version of events as their own.

This seven-minute video which I call "The Assassin of Democracy" focuses on one of the most skillful and amoral expert of all the experts in mass manipulation, Edward Bernays. Bernays got his first taste of the power of propaganda during World War I. He advised US presidents from Woodrow Wilson to Eisenhower and served numerous corporations and business associations. One of his biggest fans was Hitler's propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels, a fact about which Bernays bragged proudly.

In this clip, we see a pattern that Bernays used over and over again: turn a harmless entity into a fearsome enemy through lies and manufactured news items. Then use the "threat" to justify attack. The subject of this video is Bernays campaign against the democratically elected government of Guatemala in 1953, but you'll have no trouble seeing that this very same method is being used today.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man hardly mentions the 50 governments the U.S. has overthrown since WWII or the 10+ million slaughtered abroad.

In fact, he mentions the 'communist coup' that slaughtered 500,000 + people in Indonesia, but fails to mention that it was the U.S. & Suharto that were doing the slaughtering (the CIA sent death lists).

Check out his other books, like:

BTW, Killing Hope by William Blum is probably the most comprehensive compilations of U.S. interventions. However, the sheer volume of interventions may overwhelm you.

Chomsky's research is the most scholarly, in depth & thorough. Plus he's not only considered a genius (one of the most important living intellectuals) he was until very recently, the most quoted living scholar.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a seriously bad book. John Perkins is a complete liar & he totally underestimates what the U.S. has done in the world.

He gives very little detail of what he did, with who & when. Compare this to the mass of detail Philip Agee gives in his book in CIA diary.

The 2 important people he does mention (the 2 presidents) were assassinated, so that can't be corroborated.
