@urgona16 I am sorry that I have to correct you, a lot of 'on the spot' piaffes are really really bad, because quite often the horse does not bend the haunches and the front legs are not vertical but pointing backwards. Another criteria is the way the hind legs are lifted. They should be lifted forwards not upwards. What you refer to as being wrong is in fact called 'avancer' which means it is an advancing piaffe. However you are right it is far from perfect

@bernsteinaufdersee if you look at the horse in relation to the column in the background you'll notice he is moving forward slowly.

This is not a Piaffe! The horse should move forward (slowly) and not struggling on the spot. And it should prance.
