(Carteret County North Carolina) Coast Guard officials are hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. They're making last minute repairs to boats and putting unneeded equipment under cover. Coast Guard officials are warning anyone thinking of using the beach this holiday weekend to be extra careful.Captain Anthony Popiel of the US Coast Guard said ;"Especially during Labor Day, the last blast of Summer. We're going to have a lot of visitors coming to the Crystal Coves, The Outer Banks and we really need the visitors to stay on the beach, stay out of the water and stay safe."Earl is now a category four storm with winds of about 135 miles-per-hour. Forecasters say it could brush the East Coast late Thursday before curving back out to sea. But officials say any small shift in its track could alter whether it makes landfall or remains in the open ocean.
