I detect a hint of sarcasm, but you're right. We don't need them. Each song is placed somewhere on a multidimensional continuum of many genres. There are no benefits to giving the slightest amount of attention to the genre system. Especially when it comes to music, there are no intervals, therefore it is a fallacy to pursue. What about Jazz-Rock, or Jazz-funk-bebop or Jazz-dance. Everybody has their own system, and they are all pointless because followed they all end in unneccessary complexity.
