Born Margarita Carmen Cansino, Rita Hayworth was one of the great legends of classic Hollywood known for her talented dancing and sexy roles. The film Blood and Sand and her pin-up poster in World War II catapulted her into legendary status. Her most famous femme fatale role was in the film noir classic Gilda. Married five times unsuccessfully, Rita said she was "attracted to mean personalities". She was alcoholic which masked her tragic condition of Alzheimer's.

The music is Ennio Morricone's Pensiero Stupendo, Tchaikovsky's Dance of the Mirlitons (from The Nutcracker), Rosemary Clooney's rendition of Sway, and the wonderful Martha Reeves and The Vandellas singing Dancing in the Street.

Clips are from: The Renegade Ranger, Susan and God, The Strawberry Blonde, Blood and Sand, You'll Never Get Rich, You Were Never Lovelier, Cover Girl, Gilda, The Lady from Shanghai, Salome, Pal Joey and Circus World.

Rita cherished most, the musicals she made with Fred Astaire: You'll Never Get Rich and You Were Never Lovelier. I thank my good friend Claudia for contributing those clips.

  • Wonderful tribute to one of the most beautiful actresses who ever graced the silver screen. Rita Hayworth has always been my favorite star of the 40s, to see her dancing with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire is a real pleasure, even after so many years. There is no Rita Hayworth today. How could it be? She was unique, graceful and talented. Thanks to the DVD it is possible to live again and again those magic moments. An admirer from Switzerland. Thanks for posting this, the best tribute indeed.

  • @ForEverGilda Thank you for your generous comment! Yes, Rita was unique!

  • This is outstanding, Doug!!! It’s a terrific tribute to Rita, showcasing her fun and innocence. She was a wonderful actress & truly beautiful. I think Rita was the most graceful, talented female dancer Hollywood has ever seen. No one else could seduce so many men, to this day, by removing a single satin glove. ★★★★★

Excellent musical choice too. Rosemary Clooney singing SWAY with Perez Prado is a great moment.

  • CLARO QUE HOY, SEGUIRÍA ROMPIENDO CORAZONES.... EL MIO LO HIZO TRIZAS HACE RATO, ES UN SUEÑO DE MUJER. HACE POCOS DÍAS, SE DIFUNDIÓ Y SE DESCUBRIÓ, QUE SU ENFERMEDAD ERA EL ALZHEIMER, PERDÓN PERO NO HABLO ALEMÁN. QUE LO COMENZÓ A PADECER EN PARTE DE LA DÉCADA DEL 60, RECIÉN AHORA A VARIOS AÑOS DE SU DESAPARICIÓN FÍSICA SE SUPO

  • Rite is the prefect true Hollywood star, beautiful, could sing, dance, act, she represents the true stars of classic Hollywood, now all we have today are the sub human creatures of socalled reality TV, we are more then cheated today. After all there are still truely talanted people out there, but hollywerid just throws out the modern freak show.

  • my daughter is a libra with a pisces moon like rita, and she is very beautiful too, must be the combo of the venus sun sign and the neptune moon sign ... creates the illusions of beauty : ) and others melt, i even melt and do things i do for my daughter that i don't do with my other kids : ) ahhhh the power of Istar, Venus, Astarte : )
