  • If you go back to when Gerald was thinner and used a Selmer instead of his Cannonball(he endorses them so he has to play them) his sound was so much better. His skills haven't changed, just his sound. Check out what I'm talking about with the first video of him playing Georgia on my Mind at the top of this page!! The tape doesn't lie!! I'm not bashing him, this guy is the most soulful player out there with altissimo perfection!!! My personal favorite!! I just like his earlier sound better!

  • Good point. However I would really like to hear him play a Selmer MArk VI. That instrument had a better sound and they do not make them anymore. The Selmers of today are made of a different composition.. I would go anywhere to listen to Gerald. Did you know he also plays a mean bass?

  • Yes Gerald is great. I was sitting about 10 feet from him when I caught the video. It was a great day in Syracuse for me. Also I wonder if he is using the same mouthpiece as that can make a big difference also.

  • Beechler HR on alto, KW 2 on tenor. Sorry, didn't make that clear.

  • Thwe next time you talk with him please tell him he has a devout fan in Syracuse NY. I admire him style of playing and keep him in mind when playing. I will definitely catch him the next time he is near.

  • @4000s he never used a selmer he used a kielworth

  • he is a master of them whatever you guys say

  • Cannonball do not pay any of their "endorsers"

  • not even close try like a little over 3

  • hes way too big for the alto. he sounds better on tenor anyway.

  • that was from their older models from the 90's thet are a lot more durable now and sound a lot better

  • cannons are still made in asia, just tuned in the usa ,yamaha still better by far ,i hear bits still fall off cannons

  • That right there is a Cannonball Big bell Albright series saxophone. An easy 5Gs.
