Fiona Apple McAfee Maggart (born September 13,1977) is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. Apple met international acclaim for her 1996 debut album, Tidal, which was a critical and commercial success. At nineteen years old, she received a Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for the single "Criminal" from that album in 1998.
After Tidal, Apple released the critically acclaimed, though less commercially successful albums, When the Pawn... (1999) and Extraordinary Machine (2005). A perceived shelving of Extraordinary Machine was met with vocal protests from her fans, who campaigned against her record label in 2005. Apple's musical style contains elements of jazz and alternative rock. Her musical output has been praised and given her a cult following.
It's been some four years since the release of Fiona Apple's controversial Extraordinary Machine , but if you consider the fact that that album was actually shelved for some time before it got to the fans, Apple's new cover of "Why Try to Change Me Now" was recorded for the That Was Then And This Is Now: A Tribute to Cy Coleman EP, and although it's not her original material, she mixes it with vulnerability and confidence that only she can elude.

George Wein (born October 3, 1925) is an American jazz promoter and producer who has been called "the most famous jazz impresario" and "the most important non-player... in jazz history". He is the founder of what is probably the best-known jazz festival in the United States, the Newport Jazz Festival, which is held every summer in Newport, Rhode Island. Born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1925, Wein was a jazz pianist in his youth and while studying at Boston University led a small group which played professionally around the Boston area. In 1950 he opened a jazz club called Storyville and established a record label by the same name. In 1954 Newport residents Louis and Elaine Lorillard invited him to organize a festival in their hometown of Newport, Rhode Island, with funding to be provided by them; the subsequent festival was the first outdoor jazz festival in the United States, and became an annual tradition in Newport. Wein went on to start a number of festivals in other cities, including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Playboy Jazz Festival in Los Angeles, and also established the Newport Folk Festival. In the 60s he set up Festival Productions, a company dedicated to promoting large-scale jazz events.
