This video is dedicated to the men who dug the Ohio Erie Canal, Ohio Miami Canal and the Erie Canal by hand. Using picks and shovels they dug a ditch and lined it with clay to prevent the canal water from draining out. Working at times in miserable conditions for low pay they persevered to open the midwest to further expansion.
I would like to thank Foster Brown for allowing me to use his music for this video. This song and his other albums can be found at www.fosterbrown.net

  • Hi there - I really enjoyed this video, and shared it with my father who reminded me that these pics cannot be from the construction of the Erie Canal. What canal are the photographs from? Thanks.

  • A glorius time in American history. My Great, great grandfather was a boat owner and shipper on the section of the canal from Attica, Indiana to Evansville and I have in my posession some bills of lading for wheat shipments from attica to Perrysville, indiana. William Smith Sr. was his name. Records exist in the Covington Indiana fountain county courthouse. recording these transactions.

  • mostly irish as they are probubly the only heavy duty race

  • I love this song...

  • Great song and video - love the photos. I lived on the Hudson my whole life - except for 7 years near the canal and I still miss it

  • Im WATCHING THIS FOR HOMEWORK lol
