A surreal visceral experience, full intro:
"There may be some skeptics in the room who feel that the linkage that we dancers -- I've never actually used those two words before, actually, that we, I just want to repeat in case anyone didn't hear -- that we dancers seek to draw between the last scene in the Mumbai-based film Slumdog Millionaire and the graduating class of Radcliffe 2009; however (and probably those skeptics are absolutely right, there's no linkage at all) but one can make the following two arguments: first of course the song Jaiho is about joy and we're celebrating here the pleasures small and large that we enjoyed over the course of this year, but I think perhaps still more important what this dance can be seen as celebrating is one of the salient features of the Radcliffe, which is the breaking down of those barriers that normally punctuate academic and cultural life and separate --- it's a long sentence, but it's one sentence, and ... (are they making faces behind my back? I've come to trust them. wrongly) in any event, there is something about the Radcliffe situated in one of the great elite institutions in the world that somehow manages to traduce these hierarchies and it's a blessed feature of the place and we celebrate it now, and finally I've wanted to say this all year because this is how the marvelous Judy Vichniac ended her splendid introduction after introduction:
Let us welcome, let us welcome, Radcliffe's -- I forgot the name -- players!"
