From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Ruth Ezell visits with Bob Heil, a respected and innovative creator of sound systems. Heil got his start playing Hammond organs as a young teen, and then took lessons from the legendary Stan Khan, the organist at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. From there he opened up Ye Old Music Shop in Marissa, Illinois, and became the premier name for sound systems, creating them for bands such as The Who, Grateful Dead, The Eagles, Dolly Parton and Jerry Lee Lewis. Heil later closed the music shot to focus on creating microphones for ham radio operators, but become involved with the music industry once again when Joe Walsh—a friend of Heils and ham radio user—discovered Heils ham radio mic provided better sound than any other mic hed tried on stage. In June 2006 he became the only manufacturer to be have a display in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

  • A very high quality product. Nice video, 73 from Bulldog, Unit 777 over here in central Maine...over!

  • We blew a crossover in one of Heil's boards in Cape. I drove the board to Marrisa the next day, and Bob gave us a loner so we could perform that night. He never met a stranger. I don't care if you played Kiel Auditorium or Ted's Warehouse you were treated the same. Thanks Bob for your contribution to musicians around the world.

  • Bob made high quality PA reality for all of us poor rockers who were stuck with 35 watt Bogens and University columns a reality.

I first knew this guy was a genius after the Strawberry Fields Concert in the 60's. Between him and Pete Traynor, lots of us began to rock just a wee bit harder.

    Thanks BOB
