Students using reciprocal teaching activities to improve their understanding of a passage of narrative text. Reciprocal teaching strategies support adolescent literacy skills development by helping to create a dialog between students and teacher about a passage of text. Both the students and teacher take turns acting as the instructor and asking text comprehension questions.

The program being used in this example is SRA Read to Achieve - a middle school and high school literacy intervention program from SRA/McGraw-Hill.

  • I didn't get it at first, and I am still not sure `i get it. Um.... I will ask my teacher....

  • Wow. First of all, the introduction might have sounded good on paper, but even as someone who is familiar with reciprocal teaching, it was confusing. It took me several plays to understand what the narrator was saying. The students appeared to be reading from a script. The script was not natural, and neither was the acting. Please, please, please do not use this as an instructional video!
