Intel Director of Software Developer Programs, Scott Apeland, announces that The Intel® Academic Community has welcomed 1,000 universities into a comprehensive network that uses social media to connect Intel with 1,680 professors worldwide. Since 2007, the Intel® Academic Community has provided university faculty with parallel programming and visual computing curriculum, developer tools, training, research and more in an effort to enhance software education. As the computing industry continues to shift towards multicore and manycore processing, there is a greater need for the next generation of software developers to be versed in parallel programming. The community gives professors the opportunity to share courseware they have created and receive valuable feedback and input from peers. Scott highlights some of the successes with professors in India and Mexico. To date, the program has trained more than 100,000 students in 72 countries.
