What an ignorant statement, Johannahulscher. If your ears stick out, its due to genetics. Whats your excuse for the best known Brit with elephant ears.uhhhhh.Prince Charles, Did his nanny place him on his back too long?
our baby/todler tub worked great. this is cute, but how long would it really last? Babies grow so fast. If you have the $ go for it, but if you are debating between this and a tub... get the tub, it will ast longer. And there are tubs that sit directly over the sink nice and secure w/a drain that empties into the sink w/o having to move the tub.
This tummy tub can last up to a year after birth. I'm from the Netherlands and my mother used to wash me and my siblings in a bucket in the sink till I was about two. I later got a larger 'bucket' to sit in and play in the backyard. It was very cramped but comfortable and fun. (I remember getting my first bowl of icecream ever from my grand mother while sitting in the bucket. This 'bucket' is professionalized and made safer but by no means a new idea in my country.
it would be even better if she kept her next to her mum's body, in a sling or soft carrier. Living in a plastic bucket is no way to grow. Plus she is likely to get flat head in the back.
The babies don't 'live' in these tubs and by taking a 20 minute bath you don't get 'flat head syndrome' you get that by always positioning your baby on it's back while it sleeps. (And the ears that stick out like 95% of all the Americans have) In most parts of Europe we lie the babies on their sides while sleeping to prevent that and flat head syndrome.
No that was in reply to soleilss. About her friend's baby in it's car seat all the time. What a terrible way to parent. carrying a baby is a far better way to care for reflux.
Oh, okay, I got confused since you were talking about 'living in a plastic bucket' so i thought you meant the tummy tub. You're absolutely right about the car seat. It's not just the head, let stand the back on the long term, but when the baby is ready to roll over she can't since the space of the car seat is very confined. So her development is decreased. The word 'car SEAT' actually says enough. I wonder if she ever took her baby to the doctor with this problem.
Yes it does but what is the sense?how log are you going to imitate such environment? The idea for me was interesting in the beginning but the fact that a child is not anymore in a womb and has a lot of development phases, it has to get used to changes around him and not hold him in environment that he got used to and feels safe in.The attitude will be that a child will get used to changing environment and feel more confident for any changes that will encounter its surrounding.
