Sometimes you just get lucky.....so now my old drive is working fine and it hasnt clicked sense.....I did all kinds of tests and they all passed.....it only clicks one time after you connect the USB to your computer but that was common, it did that ever since the first time I got the 1TB HDD....loudness has been reduced because it used to be loud and no clicks....people try that if your HDD clicks but is still able to read the data, format it it might just solve your problem, it did for me

External drives are useful....I would just recommend for you not to use it so much, my Seagate TB HDD was doing the click of death alot, it would sometimes freeze or slow down but still be able to read the data, realizing this i had to go to Best Buy and buy an immidiate hard drive to back it up, don't take any chances always have a spare HDD ready, after I backed up the data I formatted the old drive with success and guess what...click is gone, don't know what I did but it doesnt click anymore

Thank you for that reel. My hard drive is dead now after the last system shutdown. I cant comprehend the reason. It was a external Trekstor drive 1TB, one year old. A lot of work is gone within hundred´s of old home videos. It seem´s, external hard drives are not the best decision to store important data. Bad thing. It´s better to make a backup from the backup, backup that backup again on another drives - i will be back me up through my lifetime because the drives are not reliable enough. Grmpf.

Okay, this cleared it up for me, freezing may not possibly fix a Hard Drive Head Issue which according to him is the culprit 95% of the time.
Now I'm just wondering if freezing reduces chances of professional (read outrageously expensive) data recovery from the platters themselves if it does not fix this problem and it has already been attempted... it shouldn't technically speaking do much more damage than the data has already received. i know hdd is dead and useless regardless. data counts!

I've never had a probelm with any hard drive. I still have the 300gb HD from an old Hp Pavillion desktop from six years ago in which the motherboard blew out within six months, which really sucked. All my computers have been custom jobs ever since. Can't go wrong there.

is it the way it clicks that determines whats wrong with it? cause mine clicks like a clock, not very fast, then a few seconds later it stops.

What kind of disk enclosure is that? Is it USB? Firewire? Both? eSATA?
