Who Knows Where the Time Goes Sandy Denny Fairport DEMO

Sandy Denny's home demo recording as she writes this amazing song, later recorded with Fairport Convention and covered by many artists including Eva Cassidy, Nina Simone, Nanci Griffith.

I've put together this compilation of photos and sleeve art from Sandy Denny's all too brief career, with Fairport Convention and beyond, to mark what would have been her 60th birthday 06/Jan/2007 and try to celebrate her amazing talent.

The soundtrack is Sandy's home demo recording of her own song 'Who Knows Where The Time Goes' circa 1967, from the hard-to-find demos compilation CD 'Borrowed Thyme' and I've tried to pick pictures and transitions to suit it.

It's my first attempt to make or upload one of these, hope it works OK....

Who is playing guitar on this? Sandy? Richard Thompson? Someone else. The voice is stunning. It is arbitrary who is famous and who not. "Your fickle friends are leaving..."

@MickeyYahoo I'm not 100% certain but am pretty sure it's Sandy herself as she was known for amazing time signatures and tuning set ups especially in these early days

This version of Who Knows Where the Time Goes is so raw and real. I sang this song to my mother at my own wedding recently. She died shortly afterward. I sing it to her now at the gravesite. It's timeless. This time thing. Who really knows where the time goes? We waste time, we make the most of the time, we take the time, we cherish the time, we spend the time. But we long and beg for it back when a loved one is gone, wanting always more time together. It's the way it is when you love.

Fascinating, very English delivery of her wonderful also very Engllish song from Sandy, but even better is the BBC slower ampified acoustic version, track it down, one of the greatest tracks ever.

@dianafailla A truly raw reading... but when you Love...well you live, and hopefully others see what living is...David is my friend who passed away 19years ago he was 37...I STILL sing to him at His graveside today with the scarecrows in the field opposite, we used to share our problems... being married, etc.etc.etc. then He was gone, now his wife is with someone else & does not talk to me anymore & if She did I would be torn....loads of love.

@dianafailla Thanks for that moving tribute to Sandy Denny and your mother. My mother - a great Fairport fan - died not so long ago, and I also love the song.
