This is a clip from a local news station showing the Executive Inn Rivermont Hotel in Owensboro, KY be destroyed by implosion. I worked for this hotel for two years as a security officer and they were the best two years I've had. I met friends and created memories at that hotel. Due to financial trouble the hotel was sold at auction which the city of Owensboro attained it. The city had no intention to continue the business so as I and over 300 other employees were told we were out of a job after the weekend passed. The doors had shut on June 6, 2008. On November 08, 2009 9:00am the city of Owensboro took motion to take down the hotel by implosion. As a grand wonder it may be to witness for those such as myself its a sad day. Memories are now among the rubble.

  • Were all the furnitures left inside the hotel during explosion?

  • @happyfa no it was either auctioned off or thrown away.

  • there is nothing to do in Owensboro. I go to Nashville or Louisville to do all my shopping...

  • That is the fate of this city. Your comment is exactly why I hate the folks that ruined this city which had great plans to be the best.

  • Bays did not want to ever see the doors close. Yet the owners who attained the hotel from Bays refused all offers except for the city's offer. Yep it was a inside deal from the beginning. The city never liked the hotel though it was bringing in the business and people. They wanted the land and they finally got their greedy hands on it. Owensboro's Officials can go to hell for all I care anymore. The youth will stand and the old money of Owensboro will dry up.

  • Some inside information for everyone. When the hotel was getting ready to auction there was a couple serious buyers willing to pay the price. Their was an Asian couple who were going to buy it for 8 million. Yet when the auction hit no one bid on the hotel so the original owners (there was like five of them) had to buy it back. After we were all told we were going to be out of a job in a couple days before closing, it was said that Bays was trying to get a hold of anyone in charge to buy it.

  • @UberStarFkr I was one of the demo contractors that bid on this project. The method used is actually the cheapest way to go. No specialized equipment was needed for the cleanup vs the hireach excavator that would've been needed to bring it down from the top down. In addition, the manhours on the cleanup was way less than they would've been on a conventional mechanical demolition.

  • Wow!

  • I dindt think it was sad that they imploded it it... its just a hotel. but it does hold a lot of great memories. i didnt get to see it though i was out of town.

  • I'm moving from owensboro to Lexington that last great hope of a city in the commonwealth.

  • The youth? No youth stays in Owensboro. They all move away to college and never look back...unless they have a family business.
