Are you crazy. The lebanese government requested a U.N cease fire 3 week's before the actual cease fire. The US could have stopped the war 3 week's before, but they had a timetable WHICH THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH.

You need to do a little research. The UN Security Council was stymied, as usual, by a U.S. veto. Israel decided to withdraw because their losses were too heavy. Hezbollah was supported by the majority of the Lebanese people.
