Ms. Harbury is a human rights activist and lawyer who wrote about her own first hand experiences and those of her husband in the book "Searching for Everardo: A Story of Love, War, and the CIA in Guatemala". She is also the author of "Truth, Torture, and the American Way: The History and Consequences of U.S. Involvement in Torture".

If some state tortures people in your village they may gain information ,some of it may actually stop more killing.but it will certainly turn more people against the state.I would support torture if it worked.but the facts suggests it intensifies divisions
