Tribute to Gap Year Ecuador Tragedy *Every Breath*

On the 12th of April 2008, a truck crashed into a bus full of British students on their gap year adventure in Ecuador. Five of them perished instantly.

This absolute tragedy struck a chord deep inside me as the gap year program they were on with VentureCo, was identical to the trip to South America I did exactly 3 years ago - combining aid work with travelling for 4 months. I remember reaching Quito on the first day, going up to Otavalo, torturing ourselves trying to climb iced Cotopaxi, the beauty of Mindo... It was the best time of my life.

I wanted to do something to commemorate these beautiful, intelligent, young women, but also to thank their parents for having had the strength to let their babies venture into new experiences, to help them grow as human beings.

We know how hard it must be for you to let us go and experience such adventures in far-off lands, even though you'll worry so much about us.

This is how we know; this is the strongest kind of love.

i knew one of the girls in the accident. its nearly three years ago. i commented on this video shortly after the accident. it still takes me right back to that time, but it makes me so happy. and so proud to have known becci.

Even-though this accident happened two years ago I still can't grasp the idea that those young girls aren't in this world any more.

People in Ecuador remember this incident and reflect on it from time to time.
