http://www.ted.com What is happiness, and how can we all get some? Buddhist monk, photographer and author Matthieu Ricard has devoted his life to these questions, and his answer is influenced by his faith as well as by his scientific turn of mind: We can train our minds in habits of happiness. Interwoven with his talk are stunning photographs of the Himalayas and of his spiritual community.

when you see that you are not your body, nor your ego [self image] nor your ideals nor your goals, then nothing can cause you to suffer. however to live as a human and to continue the game of life, one must care about these things to some degree. Being present, being skillful, one can gamble on the real options before him and play with the greatest contentment.

when with Buddha, he puts on a frock, when with a ghost, he dons a paper dress, But the frock can't make you monk!

Anger can bring people together, yes, anger provides focus. But anger provides that focus to the exclusion of other stimuli. The angry man will charge his target not realizing they have friends waiting for him to present his back to them. A calm man will see the friends and either get his own friends or not fight at all.

A good fighter feels no anger towards his opponent, is always a chess match. All the great generals:Alexander ,Hannibal, J. Caesar , Napoleon, etc, played with the emotions of their opponents; their anger, pride fear, etc. Racionality and a tempered mind is the main feature of a leader; that is what gets things done. Anger, fear, etc is the main caracteristics of the pawns, wich are the end, no more than that. Anger is the signature of weak minds.

Anger is a strategy that is quick and dirty and useful enough to survive in most species of animals... simply put, pain what appears to be paining you to make it stop or flee from you.

a kick in the balls creates pain, however suffering can be seen as the magnification of pain by extending it beyond the actual pain to remembrances and anticipations that are only kept alive by the mind.

Even when you see all that, a good kick in the balls will still hurt you quite a lot ;) There is no escape from some forms of suffering. And that's a good thing.

Anger is a strength, not a weakness. Where would the world be today if revloutions, driven by anger, did not happen?

    Anger gets shit done.

None are "controlled" by life, as all three can be perceived by the mind in diff ways using a positive outlook and the mind can affect them. Confidence is CERTAINLY not controlled by life...confidence is often a developed skill not something you are simply born into or that is thrust upon you.
