The Lilies of the Field

Words by R.Kennard Davis, Tune by H.C. Stewart. I went to Magdalen College School in Oxford, and this was our school hymn. Turn on captions to see the words. As I remember, we used to sing it on the last day of term and at the annual commemoration service. I've tried to use registration that sounds similar to the school organ, but the swell Trumpet on my Allen digital organ isn't really the same. The school organist's job was quite hard work (it was for me anyway), but it does teach you how to accompany hymns! .

@moaoz333 Nice one mate, hope you're enjoying it - I found it rather hard work but then I'm not all that good at it. Looking back on it, it's not a bad instrument you've got there although we were usually rude about it, although it's many years since I've played it. This was one of my earlier postings not all that long after I got my Allen organ. It's handy for practise and it really does sound like a pipe organ.

I'm new at Magdalen. I found this video while looking for the words to the hymn - on my first day they had run out, and I didn't know them! Do you have like a chord sequence for that?

Not quite clear exactly what you're looking for mate . I've certainly got a copy of the words and the music - is that what you mean by a chord sequence? If so then pm me and I'll sort something out for you.

I'm saddened to learn that the hymn tune "Magdalen College" with the accompanying words by Christopher Smart is not the school hymn!
