James II was born and raised outside Scotland but had a father who was born in Scotland and who's father was Scottish. In other words he was exactly the same as Sophia of Hanover as far as Scottishness goes. William was little different. His mother was the sister of James.

I was talking about how stupid all of the bigotry is. The fight isn't and shouldn't be about catholic and protestant! I support a united Ireland free from British rule, but throughout history the powers that be have used religion as a dividing tool to rule. There were plenty of catholics in King Billy's army and plenty of protestants have fought for Irish independence since, Wolfe tone for one. The pope backed King Billy as he needed him to keep down the French as they were becoming too powerful
