I have never had a dog with anal gland issues until now. I have two dogs, but only my Akita is having this issue. Since he already looks a little swollen back there, I am going to use some epsom salt in warm water and soak a towel in it and press it back there. I read that you need to do this twice a week until the swelling goes down. This is really new for me, I had never heard of doing this before now.

I like how calm and trained your dog is. I have a large Akita and I have to do this on him. It will be my first time ever and he likes to fight me on everything. I even have to tussle and fight with him when I give him a bath. This is going to be insane, wish me luck.

I really hope that this dog is now with animal lovers and not being analized for your enjoyment, laughs, and having the ability to put a video of it on youtube. The other videos have professionals, and even they clearly state that you should NOT do it yourself because of the problems incompetency can cause by doing it yourself. You're hurting the dog. You you see the humped back? - A dane is just too sweet to take your face off. Look at the anus to see if there is swelling and where. Or go to the vet.

Most big dogs dont have anal gland issues. If you start expressing the anal gland just for fun then you can cause issues with the gland working on its own. When your dog craps keep an eye on its ass after the poop comes out you can see a few drops of clear liquid drip out. This is the Anal gland working on its own and it would not need to manually drained. I know its fun to give your dog a happy ending but it only makes things worse in the long run
