We Italians can be proud......of the past!

Isn't this the NBC Symphony rather than the N.Y. Philharmonic? I don't remember him conducting the Philharmonic in 1953.

Oooh i have been looking for this particular recording for years. The storm scene is so exhilarating and at 5:00 where the storm is winding down the orchestra crescendos and decrescendos mimicking the up and down of waves in the storm!
I haven't heard any other conductors doing the storm scene this way.
I used to play timpani in H.S. and it was such a joy doing Rossini's songs.
Strings, reeds, brass, percussion, dynamics........Rossini knew how to mix and match. Textures! Nostalgico80 si

The great cellist Frank Miller !!!

wonderful the cello opening tune. It is not possible to be done other ways: this is the right one.
One of the best 20th century classical recordings (parts 1 @ 2).
The crescendo is glorious!
