I never got why Mordechai is the leader. Caleb seems like the well-off, intellectual type, and he's also the single most sinister-looking of the group, I think he should be the bossman and the three dumb rednecks his henchmen. Is he not as rich as he seems? Why does he even associate with these losers?

I thinks that came from an campfire story, and even told from the outside. And maybe that ugly Abe Lincoln bearded robber and smuggler, Modechai and his gangs can welcome Yosemite Sam, Snidely Whiplash, Dan McGrew, the Hooded Craws and his men, Professor Moriarty and his men, the river pirates, and even Jesse James and his gangs.

Caleb is the only one who's not a dumb redneck.
He also is well off considering he lives in a large Antebellum-style home.
So he's obviously not starving.
Ya never know though, he could have inherited that mansion from dead relatives.
