A restored part of the Siberian hydropower plant at the centre of a tragedy that claimed 75 lives, has been restarted. Russia's Prime Minister Vladimir Putin put into operation the unit which had been in reserve since December last year, pressing a symbolic red button reviving the damaged plant. In August 2009, a catastrophic accident caused flooding of the engine and turbine rooms. The plant is expected to be fully repaired by 2014 at an estimated cost of over 1 billion dollars. Putin also urged private investors to fulfill their promises.
