Sonata Marittima by Victor Kioulaphides performed by the Dutch Mandolin and Guitar Duo Ferdinand Binnendijk & Saskia Spinder. The Sonata Marittima was composed in 2008 and dedicated to the Danish mandolinist Tove Flensborg. The work was premièred by Tove Flensborg and the guitarist Per Graversgaard Hansen on September 4th, 2010.
The Sonata Marittima has the following three movements titled:

I. Allegro assai - 'Storm at Sea'
II. Adagio - 'Night at the Docks'
III. Toccata - 'Sailors Dance'

It is one of many wonderful works written for mandolin in combination with (an) other instrument(s) by Victor Kioulaphides.

Ferdinand Binnendijk & Saskia Spinder both are members of the well-known Dutch Mandolin Chamber Orchestra Het CONSORT.

Please enjoy!

  • fantastic!

  • Absolutely FANTASTIC! It is performances like this that composers *live* for. While perfectly under control, Ferdinand and Saskia's interpretation also sounds dangerous enough to be exciting. Anyone who knows and loves the sea knows that She is a fickle, moody goddess— definitely NOT for the faint of heart!
