I like to think about the Roman Empire in terms of technology and literature. The war aspects of their empire were sick and not in good intentions. As an American I can say the same thing about the neo-Rome. Do any of you guys know the actual symbolism of the Eagle? It is quite concerning. Also the whole church thing makes me deeply uncomfortable.

the eagle was a greek symbol for the rapresentation of Zeus , a god for the ancient greeks.

the romans adopted this symbol because it was considered the symbol of power.

the eagle was used by the second Rome ( est roman empire) , Carlo Magno (holy roman Empire) for represent the continuity with the Roman empire , by the Russian empire (zar it means caesar ---> giulio cesare , the first roman emperor) . it was used by Austian and napoleonic empire too.

@Lhein33 Guy, I said I liked Roman literature and architecture so I dont understand your comment. And the Romans used their advanced technology to dominate the known world. I dont consider empire a GOOD characteristic.

@Jononutoob You are wrong: in both literature and technology the Christian Romans (Byzantines) were great.

The ecclesiastic literature is gorgeous, universally recognized for its theological richness, its melodiousness & its literary value (Romanos, John of Damascus etc). The secular is not widely known but it continues every aspect of the ancient literature with great love for plays of words etc.

For their technology read what Liutprand says about their court and see Hagia Sophia and greek fire
