The SS Lord Strathcona was the second ship torpedoed off Bell Island, Newfoundland, Canada on September 5, 1942. Just 15 minutes after the Saganaga was sunk by two direct hits from German U-Boat U-513, the Lord Strathcona was hit by another two torpedoes. Only minutes previous to the hit, all hands evacuated the Strathcona, and the ship sunk in 90 seconds without casualty.
Today, the Strathcona sits at the bottom of Conception Bay and is accessible to divers. Its remarkable condition is a diver's paradise, providing flourishing sea anemone gardens and dozens of historic artifacts (for viewing, not taking!)
Ocean Quest Charters provides dive charters to the wreck, and works year round to ensure the protection and presevation of this remarkable shipwreck. Enjoy our video tour, and we hope to see you get down on the wreck yourself!
