Hoagy Carmichael - Rockin` Chair (1956)

Hoagy first recorded the song with own hand-picked band [with a line-up including Bix Beiderbecke, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Bubber Miley, Eddie Lang & Joe Venuti and Gene Krupa] on May 21, 1930. It was more "swinging" than this version....and a jazz classic!

Mildred Bailey ( 1907(?) - 1951 ) did a definitive version of it in 1932. She recorded it a number of times after that. It became a signature song of hers. Mildred Bailey was for a time, married to jazz xylophonist/vibraphonist Red Norvo. She was also the sister of Al Rinker, one of Paul Whiteman's original Rhythm Boys, along with Bing Crosby.
