Edmonton Alberta Tornado

July 31, 1987

Canada has had a handful of violent tornadoes. On the day of the Hermitage twister in 1985 (look for it in my uploads), the city of Barrie Ontario was devastated by an F4.

This clip is of the Edmonton twister in its developing stages, captured on home video. This tornado was also F4, and killed 27 people. Check out the massive bowl-shaped wall cloud. The multiple vortices in this thing are wild; it rivals the Oshkosh tornado of April 21st, 1974 for the most dramatic example of a multi-vortex storm.

Sorry, the quality of the footage isn't the best; it was transfered from a very old VHS tape.

my mom went to work thon one nice dy and she was on the other side of edmonton she was driin home and realized there was a tornado jeez!!

i was only 4 years old, all i can remember is my mama holding me in our basement. it was so dark and loud, we didnt think we would make it, all we had was our love. i will always always remember black friday.

I was 13 when the tornado hit Edmonton. Thank god we were camping and not near Edmonton at the time (i think about a few hrs away)...but we had major thunderstorms, lightning and hail at our camp site from the effects of the tornado. But we came home to the destruction..and our home was not too far from the refinery area the tornado hit....if it had come down just a few blocks west from where it did our house would have been gone.
