its When the cambelt has snapped and not fixed probberly the valves tap on the pistons ever so slitely

The 1.6 tu5j4 engine has the same problem ( loose Spark plugs ) i had it 2 times now

Wow, it sounded like the cambelt to me, early stages of needing a new one! Surprised it was a loose plug, i'll remember that incase mine does the same! :-)

My 106 ( yea 106 1.6 16v ) GTI tapped aswell and it was a loose sparkplug like this one :D

Was a loose spark plug, it is common on this engine apparently
Car is still going strong, must be nearing 150k now :o

it was a loose spark plug - apparently common on these for the odd one to loosen.
