Our wild deer friend Rosie visits often to eat leaves and fruits from many plants in the yard, to drink from the bird bath, and to receive an occasional massage. Recently she followed her curiosity into a garage, and then when startled she jumped through a window, cutting an ugly 10 inch gash on the side of her neck. She came soon after into our yard, and we were shocked at the severity of the wound. We were not sure if she would survive. We cleaned the wound, and over the next days gave her some special herbal remedies from our friend Sharon, who prepares herbal cures for animals (http://anaflora.com). Rosie healed remarkably fast, and seems extraordinarily grateful.

  • God BlessYou for helping to save Rosie's life. Just curious: Are there any vets where you live who know anything about deer and how to treat them?

  • @dazzle7000 Thanks for your comment. Yes, there are vets who could treat deer. The difficulty is that usually it is impossible to get close to a hurt deer (or any deer), so most vets have very little or no experience. One cool thing, however, deer have one of the best immune systems on the planet. In addition, when injured, the deer's body isolates the injured area from the rest of the body in a way that lets them use their reserve energy more efficiently. One of nature's greatest survivors.

  • this was 2 years ago. Is she still around?

You can see Rosie in our video "Deer says "Meh!" (Dec, 2010).

    She's a strong deer!

  • As much fun as it might be to care for a wild animal, its not a good idea, because not every other human will be nice to her, and she could find herself in a sticky situation..

  • @somuchluv89 Just like not every human is the same, not every deer is the same. Most deer understand the difference between a stranger and a friend. In any case, when we saw Rosie with this terrible wound coming right up to us, humans she knows very well, "fun" had nothing to do with it. This is a great example of the problem of generalizing, and ignoring key facts simply because you think you know "the truth" about something. In politics, this kind of ignorance sometimes passes for strategy.

All too often people respond to this act of compassion with murderous sarcasm. I guess that's a mask for deep psychological issues. I don't hunt, but I have nothing against hunters who want to feed their families. Why do hunters like you feel the need to ridicule us for what we like to do? It's too bad you don't ask yourself that question. Maybe then America would start to mature as a culture. Sadly, the people who like murderous sarcasm will just see this comment as too liberal.

  • Alot of weird people and angry people commenting on here... i hunt but i also support this its really interesting how much trust this animal has with you.

  • i watch this video some nights over and over before bed, because your voice is so soothing it puts me to sleep

  • so... when do you harvest and eat the deer?

  • I remember when i was a tree hugger.

  • "Sport" Hunters are sociopaths. They love to take their children, too! Desensitise them early in life, and most won't recover. It's like child molestation.

  • honestly, if it's such a bad cut, you should have put it down, i'm not saying what you did was wrong, but not saying it was the right thing to do either

  • slit the damn animals throat and eat it! get over yourself

  • That is a spoiled rotten deer.
