  • Thanks for the kind review! I'll make sure to add both a webcam suite and screencast tool to Dream Studio 11.10.

  • @macinnisrr thanks that would be greatly appreciated and thank you for making such a distro for us content creators who want to use linux, but for various reasons can not. This helps out tremendously. Just out of curiosity when will Dream Studio 11.10 be out?

  • @macinnisrr I know that you get alot of app request probably But for a screencast tool I would look at Kazam Screencaster just a GUI for FFMpeg really. And Webcam I would recommend a look at guvcview as opposed to cheese. Puts videos in more compatible formats that video editors in linux play nice with. as Opposed to GTKrecordmydesktop or Istanbul which output to ogv. Just some app recommendations from one content producer to another. I really do appreciate the work you are doing.

  • For me its been a while since ive used Ubuntu Studio but some of the major differences are that this really is made by content creator for other content creators. Jack being set up to the point it is in this distro being a major one. Default apps (Cinelerra, LIVES) just to mention a few things Customized UI for Arudor and DarkTable (ie lightroom equivalent) these are just some of the difference that i have noticed. Oh yea a one man distro. More just to much to mention

  • Great review, thanks. When I saw Jack actually working, it was like Christmas morning . . . a working DAW was the only thing keeping me using Windows. Well, guess I know what I'll be doing this evening . . .

  • I wonder which is better this distro or ArtistX 1.2

  • @darkone778 I'm working on it as we speak. and it should be out sometime within the next month. I've changed my release cycle to fall in between Ubuntu release cycles in order to have a stable base to work on. As a result, future releases will come out in July and January. Starting with 12.04, however, the LTS release will be the official release, with all new packages being backported, and "regular" releases being relegated to alpha, beta, and rc releases respectively.

  • What would you say are the major differences compared to a fully installed Ubuntu Studio?
