In January 2010, Steppin' Out visited Bulembu, a small town in Swaziland, on the border with South Africa. Bulembu was once a propsperous asbestos mining town until the closure of the mine in 2001 when virtually the entire population left in search of new employment. In 2006, a group of Christian business people bought the town with a vision to rebuild it as a self-sustaining community for the purpose of providing a home for vulnerable and orphan children. Steppin' Out brought members from several churches in Cape Town together with members of the community in Bulembu for 11 days with the purpose of bringing everyone together in worship. We carried out percussion workshops with the children and led vocal rehearsals with the adults, with the trip culminated in several main worship events over the final weekend.
