@kromannschmidt What krom said was incorrect, they were actually scared because the japs threatened the P.O.Ws that if they left the camp, they would all die.
In the book Hiroshima some military officers visited Japan shortly after Japan had surrendered.
they were a little uneasy, but the people of Japan did not bother them. I suspect it's like the recent earthquake disaster, they all came together and started to quickly rebuild their country.
I can't be certain but I've always felt that Japan and USA have a special unspoken respect for eachother on some vague level after fighting the most savage, horrifying and bloody conflict in human history against eachother, and then putting it behind them and starting over as friends.
Anyone who tries an airborne/seaborne invasion of Japan is in for one hell of a fight. All those guys do all day everyday is run defensive exercises. They know every nook and cranny, every possible entry point, every possible scenario, and have plan A and B already sorted out.
@StrawberryIchigo121 That's because Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution doesn't allow to have it's standing military any more. Majority of the military bases in Japan are owned by U.S. so of course the U.S. had to supervise Japan to defend them in case of North Korea and Chinese threat. The Japan Self-Defense forces is basically an extension of a police force even though it's a military force. We still can't trust japan to have their own as they might act aggressively if we leave our bases.
I spent a lot of time in Japan and like the Japanese people, found them to be very polite and friendly. I guess the Japanese soldiers viewed the Americans as the enemy and so felt they were justified in treating them badly.
@allyzombie5 I'm not angry, just concerned. I look at it this way, "we can leave the past behind, but we can never forget who our ancestors are and what legacy they hold."
