Baby Boubalay

A 2 day old baby chimp I was entrusted and honoured to care for during the first 3 weeks of her life as sadly her own mum didn't know how to feed or take care of her - probably because she was an orphan of the bushmeat or pet trade and hadn't grown up seeing family members care for a baby to teach her what to do. AAA has a no-breeding policy as there are so many apes in need of rescue, but occasionally accidents do happen, and this beautiful little girl is the result of one failed vasectomy. This is the only film I took of her as it was touch and go whether she'd survive as she was so small and hadn't had any colostrum from mum, but I am delighted to say she did make it and has grown enormously, if the latest photos I have seen of her are anything to go by!
