An individual could probably buy an M4, but it would be easier just to buy an AR-15 "M4 lookalike." I mean, all you really need is a collapsing stock, 16 inch barrel, and rail. It'll look like what the troops in Iraq use for urban warfare, except that it's a civilian AR-15.

@NathanEG217 check the NFA classifieds. For a select fire m16 (has to be manufactured before 1986) the cost is about 12,000-20,000 plus the cost of a tax stamp. A civilian AR15 is $800+ for decent model but it's not a true M4 or M16 it's an AR-15 clone or m4gery it's only semi auto.

@TheAustralianBloke because Americans aren't direct descendants of the British. After all, the first Europeans in America were Spanish. We are descendance of many non-English speaking people so some of our vocabulary is going to sound more like a French, German,Spanish than English.
