what's the use of counting down to 0 if you blow it up at +3 secs.

It is subtle, but you can see the sailor pushing the button when the counting stops. At first we all suspected it to become a misfire. The duty officer stresses the moment again by saying 'afvuren' (fire). I don't know whether it was due to the sound velocity through the water, or a delay in the signal, but indeed it took more time than was supossed to.

They don't "push" the button on the bow of the ship. He's taking a photo, afvuren is like Nasa says "lift of" after the countdown.
No delay in the signal, it's simply the depth it's at and it needs to travel upwards.
I served 6 years on the Dutch Minehunters, this is a Dutch ship.

I think you look at the wrong sailor, the one in front, in the middle is firing the mine disposal charge with a box placed on the anhcorwinch. This is always done from the forecastle, unless a charge is placed by divers. They detonate from the dinghy.
