That just knocked me out! I've loved Squeeze for 30 years, I've heard that song at least 100 times, and I have NEVER heard those lyrics... just snatches: amusing belly dancers... thrills and chills... camels greeting someone... from the music, I've always heard it as a goofy song. Those lyrics are brooding and beautiful. Wow. This is amazing: I've thought of Difford as a genius my whole life, and at 50, discover that I've probably missed half of what's there. Good grief!
this version is better than the album version - much moodier, dark, and without the pretense of trying to play/sell a pop song. even if glenn is missing, it lacks nothing and gains the whole new, and superior, dimension of a long lost journeyman making a plea to his beloved and professing his love to her in wary contemplation, that line between complete exhaustion/breakdown and the sublime ecstatic transcendence of a beatific vision. love squeeze, but sometimes glenn should listen to chris.
yeh I agree....crap without Glenn...Chris is a nice writer..but Glenn is the sound of Squeeze....this song is a post punk type thing..this version sounds like WESTLIFE.
What a stunning version of the song.
