@CocteauDalighari Funny how I was thinking to myself that he had Orbison's range. He also had a rock-n-roll buzz to his voice. Too bad he stopped when he did.
Awesome freaking song !!! I play in a 60's band & I'm so proud to pay tribute to Mr.Shannon every time we do Runaway & I go to pieces. I'm hoping I can get the guys to add "Little town flirt" to our sets.....It's my favorite of his.
@flyingsawcer Shannon killed himself in 1990, not long after this recording was made. He was working w/ Lynne & Petty & supposedly was their choice to replace Roy Orbison in The Travelin' Wilburys. I'd never even heard this song 'til about a year ago.
Del may have been at the top of his game, in fact I suspect this was a live concert, but somebody edited in the studio track afterwards in the editing room.Note how you don't hear any feedback, audience or reverb from the room. Again, I am sure this is the studio version. But this is not what was played that night on stage. Del didn't need to lip-synch this. It's likely the recording equipment just sucked so someone altered the recording, switching the audio channel.
I take issue with the "poor ol' Del wasn't singing that well" crack. There is on YouTube an interview he did on Aussie tv (in 1989) during which he grabs a guitar, starts singing "Little Town Flirt" and performs various vocal gymnastics. Del was still at the top of his game. I don't know if he failed at any specific live performances but I don't think he needed to lip-synch unless he was on TV without backup.
