Baritone Ernest Triplett sings the National Anthem at the inauguration of Deval L. Patrick, the first black governor, and only the second black elected governor in U.S. history. Gov. Patrick was sworn in on the Bible once owned by John Quincy Adams.
Mr. Triplett, a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music, became America?s first black director of a union affiliated professional opera company when he founded the highly regarded Associate Artists Opera Company in 1970. The Associate Artists Opera Company was born with the vision to exclusively showcase and employ young singers and musicians from New England. Associate Artists Opera Company is the forefather of today?s Boston Lyric Opera.
Today history was made in Massachusetts.
