    Toward the end of his life, yes, he was. But he certainly didn't grow up deaf or learn music as a deaf person.

    Only recently discovered his music as I actually remembered him from his Vai days. Totally awesome artist, really like the Ki album but I'm slowly working through his repertoire.

    He gradually lost his hearing until he was completely deaf. He had completely lost his hearing by the time he wrote most of the 9th.
